چکیده

ELEVATION of the y-globulin concentration in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neurologic disorders has been reported (1-3). Expression of the y-globulin values in milligrams per hundred milliliters does not reveal whether this increase is due to a general elevation of total protein or y-globuin alone. Determinations of both y-globulin and total protein may further distinguish MS from other neurologic disorders with high y-globulin. To avoid any error that may result from using two different methods for their determination, one method that determines both is desirable. The purpose of this report is to describe a simple chemical procedure for the determination of both y-globulin and total protein, and its application for the estimation of their ratio in CSF of patients with MS, other neurologic and non-neurologic disorders.

Comparative study of synovial fluid and serum protein electrophoretic pattern of river buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in Ahvaz

Electrophoresis is a meticulous method in para-clinical science but has received less attention. In this study, the protein profile of synovial fluid of carpal joint and blood serum in buffalo was detected. Sampling was performed by arthrocentesis of 80 left and right forelimbs and obtaining blood serums of 40 Bubalus bubalis in Ahvaz industrial slaughterhouse. Samples were str...

Spinal-fluid protein determination for the differentiation of neurologic disorders.

A simplechemical test previouslydescribedfor the determination of total protein and y-globulin was applied to the analysisof spinal fluid specimens (CSF) from nonneurologic and a variety of neurologic disorders. On the basis of the chemical findings, the pathologic specimens analyzed were divided into three groups: (a) nonneurologic and some neurologic conditions with a normal CSF total protein...

Photometric determination of cerebrospinal fluid total globulin and A/G ratio with a tryptophan reaction.

A previously described colorimetric tryptophan procedure for determination of serum total globulin and A/C ratio was modified so as to increase its sensitivity and suitability for determination of the small amount of globulins present in cerebrospinal fluid. Twenty-seven normal CSF specimens analyzed with the tryptophan method yielded a mean total globulin value of 14.0 ± 3.03 mg./100 ml., and ...

Cerebrospinal fluid nerve growth factor and total protein concentration in the children with meningitis

Meningitis is one of the most common infectious cerebral nervous system (CNS), defined as an inflammation of the meninges. It is clinically categorized into a chronic and acute based on the acuity of symptoms. Vomiting, bulging fontanel and fever are the main symptoms in the patients with meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is a severe, potentially life-threatening infection that is associated wit...

Cerebrospinal Fluid Indices in Acute Drug Intoxication Do they Predict the Patients’ Outcome?

Introduction: In some intoxicated patients, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is examined due to the prolonged loss of consciousness, focal neurologic findings, and fever of unknown origin. We aimed to evaluate the probable relationship between the different toxicity causes and the CSF indices in poisoned patients and determine if they could predict the patients’ outcome. Methods: All patients who h...
